An experience ??? No I must say ITS A NEW THING I HAD SEEN OR HEARD.!
This is not the usual posts that i post. Not a travel post , not a post which has places and how i got there or what I did .... No characters involved .. No sequences that take slow motion and greater in depth explanation .. no time mentions ... no fun .. no jokes.. no mockery .. no leg pulling .!!
THEN WHAT is it???
Yes read the first line ..
Let me give you a very clear understanding ...
I am a software engineer ( YES ) I am .!! But being a SE doesnt mean he is a geek , always looking at the monitor and involved in nothing but computer. But there are a few traits i carry ;) Being a software engineer , i wont be able to meet most of my friends on weekdays , not talk to them over phone for long time , dont read newspaper regularly, no strict time of waking up and sleeping or eating food.! and most importantly Weekdays start at 7 in morning , breakfast ( if there is time for it ) at 10 AM ( you might say oh. common .. 7 the day starts and breakfast at 10?? LAZY .!! )
Yes Softwariees (I call myself a Softwariee rather than a Techie) have to get up early . Not to jog or go to gym .. but to work.. there are reports that are pushed to client by 10 and only after that can i start anything.. literally :D if there is a thing that requires attention ( though done at stand at ease position for guys :P ) it can only be answered once we have given the task to someone in the team or left it to BATCH run .!! ( Only probably a software engineer might understand that term ) . But after 10 my day is not free.. it is only after this that the actually begins .! ( Not sure if every1 has so much tie up work .! ) i usually make all my routines after 10 and reach office by around 11 .!
Now most people have understood .. I HAVE WFH -- Work From Home -! and not worked FOR home .! ( not so lucky one i guess )
And there is a normal notion that most people have with Softwariees .. HE HAS A GOOD LIFE -- WORKS FROM HOME .!! LIFE??? WHat is that ? Read on till the end of my daily routine to know how it is )
at 11 i am involved in a team meeting ( look how super cool the schedules are :P) ( if there is a Traffic Jam ? well get ready to receive calls as you drive ) thats when u resort to all sorts of methods to drive with ur phone in ur pocket, in your helmet , in your collar, in car deck board, in car dash board.!!! And god knows what all :D
the meeting usually goes on for some time and probably till 12 and then the work starts ( cant divulge the details regarding this CONFLICT OF INTEREST , Non Disclosure Agreement , !@#$%^&*&^!@#&^%$#@%^&*&^% , and many more .!!!;) )
Work goes on non stop and u never know time is almost 1 45 or 2 when some poor chap held up with some corky problem which he is not able to solve starts feeling hungry and realises time is 1 45 or 2 and gets up and goes to every1 and informs about the time and one by one starts saying " oh... is it... ok ok... 10 mins ok??? " ;)( 10 or 20 mins ) and one by one everyone gets up and as forest fire the one who has got up ( stomach on fire) starts passing the fire to remaning folks ) and everyone comes out :)
Eat food and during FOODING ( eating food) discussion range from GIRLS to AUNTIES to cricket to politics to state split to tv channels to sim cards to anything on the earth ... but mostly on first topic ;)
After food it is usually a time when we take a small walk ? WALK AND TALK? LOL .! Yeah.. again the topics mentioned earlier continue .!!On road the most discussed topic becomes a loudly discussed topic too .!!
Back at seats at 2 30 and we are all in at work . Probably thinking what is the best way to implement or improve a performance or anything that has to be done to help the process of the client ...
No ones still knows i believe how time passes from 2 till evening 6 and some one again feels he is not able to solve a problem and starts feeling hungry .! and process repeats .!
But evenings might not spread the fire so easily , and hence the folks joining the fire extinguision are also less.. but FUN nevertheLESS ;)
as we come back from fire extinguision we start working again and probably by 7 30 or 8 we start to feel low and we sit and talk or start to move out of office .. Saying BYE to people who notice us moving :D not to ones who are working .! ( fire should be spread not when you are leaving home ) .!!
reach house and check mails again and reply to some , and store the documents from some mails ... and yes offcourse delete some of them too .. I mean some JUNK ones .!!
SLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.!!!!
LIFE??? where is it??
Anyways this is my daily routine where there is mostly no change whatsoever .!!
But today there was a major change ( by that i dont mean no work or anything .. )
At 11 i reach office and one of the team delivery head calls me in and says there is a urgent requirement and interview has been scheduled .! Face to face....
So make yourself free for twenty minutes and finish a interview with the candidate..
I agreed. ( no meeting .!! )
I ask the HR to hand the resume and her form with all the details so that i can really prepare myself for asking what is relevant and what not..
I saw that it was a girl's name in the resume.. I ask the HR , who is this.? He says a girl and she is here in the waiting lounge.. I said get some coffee or tea.
He obliged...
It was half past 11 and i ask him where is the interview scheduled ? Which Conference room?
He says the candidate is already in the waitihg room and there is no conference room free for next two hours.. so can i get her to the internal discussion room?
Internal discussion is inside the work place and getting into the room actually means we have to walk past the work premises and reach the room.
He guides her into the room and makes sure she is given a glass of water and coffee and other stuf..
I enter into the meeting room and introduce myself and breif her about the roles and responsibilities and how the organisation is working and the work culture and work timing
I am looking at the Resume as I speak ... Not looking at the candidate...
I lift my face and look at the candidate as she is not talking or responding to what I say..!
SHOCKER.!!
She is searching for something in her hand bag..
I asked her anything that u need? She says no in a heavy tone.. I am now wondering what happened ..
I continue to tell about the company and i hear her take a tissue paper an wipe her eyes.!
I felt something is seriously wrong ..I ask her is she the Developer we are looking for? She starts crying in full flow..! I am like what happened ? Anything wrong? Should we reschedule the process?
NO comes the answer ... But she continues to cry and I am not understanding the heck of it..
I ask her .. is there a personal problem? Is there a issue? Please help me understand..
No comes the answer .!I am totally confused what happened and what is making her cry...!!
I tell her to relax and start to tell her how i studied and how i went to a place and there i knew no one.. how things changed when i started taking things lightly and how i work here in my company.. how i see the development position.. how i passed engineering and how i got my first work . how i shifted my job and how i am thinking of to a place called kannur .. and i made sure i dont allow her to talk anything except say hmmmm.. hmmmmm... hmmmmmmmm.... almost for 30 minutes.. I usually dont speak anything but ask questions .! But today i had to make her mind a little light and normal.. so i continued telling her about the work I do. The most challenging work i had done and what i planning to work on for next few days ...
It took me almost 45 minutes ...
I told her please drink some water and then i asked her where is she from,where did she do her schooling from ... where is she working ... where are her parents...
and slowly i ask her shall we start the questions round? she says .. to be frank i have not worked with most of the stuff... but now i am feeling little better ... I can atleast talk.. thanks .!! I was like.! what? Thanks? for what?
She says.. you dont know how uncomfortable i was.. how scared i was... i was under the feeling that i am caught . i might land up anywhere now.. I am doomed.!
But you somehow managed to get me back to the normal state .. And also helped me recover.. I dont know what would have gone through my mind had it been for anyone else.. Thanks and thanks so much..
I felt relieved.. I told her this is not the end of life or anything.. but do not do this any more. Tell what you have done and people will hire you for what you are. U need not change to what people want to see in u...
There is no need to be scared if one is truthful to self..
Cheating someone who trusts you is like cheating your own self.!
